tina horn

Tonight I welcome back award-winning filmmaker, journalist, and advocate Tina Horn to discuss her first collection of nonfiction stories, Love Not Given Lightly. In her vast experience in sexual undergrounds, Tina has befriended pro-dommes, porn stars, kinky fetishists, rent boys, and more. Instead of writing a sex worker memoir, she opted to tell the stories of the people she met along the way. Illuminating human issues of desire, gender, beauty, and ultimately friendship, the stories in this book will do no less than alter the way you think about modern sexuality in America.

Tune in Friday, Augusut 7 at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET to hear this show premiere. Join the discussion on Facebook or Twitter. Tune in to Sex Out Loud every Friday, you can listen along on your computer, tablet, or phone, find all the ways at SexOutLoudRadio.com.  If you missed any part of the episode or want to listen again, you can listen to EVERY EPISODE on demand here.

Tina Horn is a writer, teacher, and media-maker. She produces and hosts the sexuality podcast Why Are People Into That?!. Her first book, Love Not Given Lightly, is a collection of nonfiction stories about sex workers; she has also been published in Vice, Nerve, Girl Sex 101, and Best Sex Writing 2015. Her next book, a guide to Sexting etiquette, drops in 2016. Recently, she has been working as the creative director of ThreeL (3L) media, developing books by Jiz Lee, Maxwell Lander, and Siouxsie Q; and she is the business development representative for Rentboy.com. Tina’s workshops on dirty talk, sex worker self care, and spanking have been featured at Good Vibrations, Kink.com, Lesbian Sex Mafia, International Ms Leather, the New School, and the Feminist Porn Conference. She is a LAMBDA Literary Fellow, the recipient of two Feminist Porn Awards, and holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence. cinekink300x200 lisa_vandever_clipboard_cropped

This week’s guest on Sex Out Loud is Lisa Vandever: a producer and consultant with over twenty years of experience in film and television. She seized the unique opportunity to combine two of her overriding fixations, film and sexuality. Founded in 2003, CineKink recognizes and encourages the positive depiction of sexuality and kink in film and television, most visibly through its annual film festival, CineKink NYC. We’ll discuss media representations of alternative sexuality, visual depictions of kink, and the intersections of film and sexuality.

This week’s show is LIVE. Find out all the ways to listen here so you can call in with questions and comments at 1-866-472-5788, join the discussion on Facebook or Twitter, or e-mail me via tristan(at)puckerup.com and I’ll read them live on the air.

As co-founder and director of CineKink, an organization that recognizes and encourages the positive depiction of sexuality in film and television, Lisa Vandever curates and oversees an annual film festival and touring series, designed to promote and showcase such works. Billing itself as “the kinky film festival,” with offerings drawn from both the independent cinema world and the adult, works presented at CineKink, currently in its eleventh season, range from documentary to drama, comedy to experimental, slightly spicy to quite explicit–and everything in between. A producer and consultant with over twenty years of experience in film and television, Vandever was formerly the director of programming for a regional network of public television stations, worked as a development executive for two New York-based independent production companies and was associate producer of the Sundance award-winning feature film, “Songcatcher.”

Seizing the unique opportunity to combine two of her overriding fixations, film and sexuality, Vandever previously co-founded the New York S/M Film Festival, which ran 2000-2002. Over the years she has also consulted with media distributors on how to best reach sexuality communities, and has advised filmmakers on how to present their works to a wider market. In addition to serving on the board of directors of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, she also volunteered on its media committee, alerting community members to media presentations of alternative sexuality, and encouraging feedback. She has spoken several times on the intersection of film and sexuality at the prestigious SXSW conference, with additional appearances including the International Film Festival Summit, Film Festival Academy, DIY Convention, Sex 2.0, MomentumCon, CatyalystCon and Leather Leadership Conference. She is proud to have once stumped the panel as a guest during a round of “What’s My Fetish?” on the Radio Chick Show …and she probably watches a lot less porn than everyone seems to think she does.

Sex Out Loud airs every Friday at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET on the VoiceAmerica Variety channel. You can listen on your computer, phone, or tablet, find all the ways here!

This Friday, October 26th on Sex Out Loud, Ernest Greene, legendary BDSM and fetish filmmaker and editor of Hustler’s Taboo Magazine, joins me in studio during my “Live in LA” series. Ernest will reveal how he went from a journalist and radio host to a porn director, and what role his bondage skills played in getting him there. Tristan will share her personal story of how she met Ernest (it involves an orgy) and they went on to collaborate on her first adult film as co-directors. He’ll discuss his love of all things kinky, what he thinks of Fifty Shades of Grey, and his marriage to renowned porn star Nina Hartley. Plus, he’ll talk about what inspired him to create a film trilogy based on a retelling of The Story of O, and the latest installment, The Truth About O, starring Bobbi Starr.

Ira S. Levine (aka Ernest Greene) has nearly forty year’s experience working in virtually every type of mass media, beginning with his first publication in Esquire at the age of fifteen in 1969. He was a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist for several years following, in addition to working as a reporter for The Rocky Mountain News in his hometown of Denver, Colorado. In the early days of talk radio there he was a regular show host on the local NBC affiliate KOA and frequent guest moderator on stations KTLK and KMYR. He went on to become executive Editor of Denver Magazine and popular culture critic for Denver’s PBS TV outlet KBPI.

After stints as a free-lance journalist in New York and San Francisco, Levine moved to London, England to work as a staff screenwriter for producer Dino DiLaurentiis before settling in Los Angeles to pursue his career as an independent screenwriter, during which he worked in development for Interscope, Inc. and The Walt Disney Company.
Between scripting projects, Levine continued to write for print, co-authoring Coming Attractions, the Making of an X-Rated Video with Dr. Robert Stoller (Yale University Press, 1989). His work has also been published in Rolling Stone, Details and Harpers. He shares co-author credit with his spouse, Nina Hartley on Nina Hartley’s Guide to Total Sex (2006), from Avery Press, a division of USA Penguin Group.
Since 1985, Levine has concentrated his efforts mainly in adult entertainment ventures, serving as Executive Editor of the best-selling adult magazine Hustler’s Taboo since 1999 and most recently as Chief Associate Editor for Hustler’s All-Sex issues.
Under the stage name Ernest Greene, he has participated in the production of adult video for two decades as a performer, writer, director and producer. His body of work comprises over five hundred titles, including AVN award winners Strictly for PleasureMask of InnocenceTristan Taormino’s Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women and Jenna Loves Pain. With his wife, Nina Hartley, he has served as producer and director of the Nina Hartley’s Guide series of adult sex education programs for video market leader Adam&Eve Pictures. The series has sold over three quarters of a million videos to date and now comprises forty titles. His own erotic features for Adam&Eve, O – The Power of SubmissionSurrender of O and The Truth About O have thus far seen sales nearing 100,000 units, making them among the biggest selling X-rated feature titles in recent years.
Levine is particularly well known for his groundbreaking approach to the presentation of unconventional sexuality related to consensual domination and submission. He has been active in the BDSM community for nearly thirty years, conducting workshops and seminars and serving as an officer of community groups. His activism also extends to the world of adult video production, where he held the position of chairman of the board of directors of The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) for seven years and to his commentaries on the adult industry Blog for Pro-Porn Activism.
